Root
02:51
|
|||
I'm growing like a healthy root
But I can't see
The massive mass of space appearing in front of me
Out of excuses
Now I'll never be
The perfect person I've buried underneath
If it's you moved a bit too soon
Or it's you're scared you never knew
Scope of the things you're supposed to do
Yeah, that you swore you always knew
You were the best actor at your old high school
They even gave you a plastic statue
Threw out the consolation prize
Find out where the confidence lies
Posing for shots you didn't take
Find better ways to motivate
Stop and consider the cliches
History of what we're trying to say
Woo
Will I ever understand these ideas from which I spring?
Becoming self-aware accidentally
Learning how to harness this anxiety
Through diet, exercise, and meditating
Can't stand the thought that you might lose
As if the joke's always on you
Sights set on what you have to do
Yeah, that you swore you always knew

Mermaid
03:35
|
|||
Well I've heard Legend and I've heard myth
And bought into all them
But one day I woke from that dream
And found myself half dead
I drove across the country to atone for my sins
Just to find out God was dead
And when I got there I just laid on the beach
And made the sand my bed
Last night I drowned a mermaid it seemed a fine recourse
I laid my hands over its throat and squeezed with great force
Saw the capillaries burst in the whites of its eyes
Saw it's Rosy Cheeks turn blue
And as it sank down below the tide
I wished to hell it was true
Standing on the beach with more thoughts in my head then sand beneath my feet
And each and every thought just reminded me of the things I'd never be
A hero a savior I'd never be braver than standing on the shore
Cause when it's swimming there right in front of you the truth is hard to ignore
Well last night I drowned a mermaid it sank in the undertow
I laid my hands over its mouth and didn't let go
Felt its last breath moving on the palm of my hand
Felt its nails scratch my skin
And as it sank down below the waves I smiled at my sin
The funny thing about fear is it keeps us from doing the things we want the most
And I left my fear to be drowned in the tide somewhere along that Coast
And maybe one day I'll return of the shore and give it a proper goodbye
But I know the day that I go back there is the day that I will die
Well last night I dreamt a mermaid a night night I'll never forget
And only time will be able to tell if I ever feel regret

Do You Speak Latin?
04:03
|
|||
Tried to get some rest
I needed a release
Thought I was the best
I'm just another beast
Sought counsel from the wise
I got some bad advice
Put good money down
Another sacrifice
Do you think about the ancient times
Wonder what it must be like
Dig a hole when you need water
Living on that caveman diet
Do you speak Latin?
I never learned it
Do you speak Latin?
I never speak
The measure of a sickness is how much it eats
Gotta clear the wreckage when it's time to feed
Get what you want and then you want to trade
Can't help yourself, it's just the way you're made
Contemplate your inner life
Impulses you have to hide
Set them free, but come to find
You're the one who's left behind
Do you speak Latin?
I never learned it
Do you speak Latin?
I never speak

Grey Snow
04:00
|
|||
A night that started dark and silent
Was woken up by lights and sirens
Rushing straight towards your address
Responding promptly to distress
The streets of turn to rivers and I stand right on the shore
Of what used to be the sidewalk where we drink the night before
The rain dissolves the mortar the bricks begin to crumble
As our accomplishments collapse our confidence is humbled
And now the city is an archipelago
These islands are the places we call home
These porches are just Piers to dock are boats
It's sink or swim and we never learned to float
We were baptized in the fire confessing our sins
Married in the Tempest of our first communion
Take you from the mortuary paint you like a tapestry
Make your skin look pink not pale and place you in a wooden jail
[The collection basket's full
But the benefits have failed]
And now the city is an archipelago
These islands are the places we call home
These porches are just Piers to dock are boats
It's sink or swim and we never learned to float
I'll take up necromancy
Our corpses we'll go dancing
Through the streets and out to all the Dives
We used to hang when you were alive
We'll drink the things we never had
To health to wealth to time
To finish what we started
Before we're swept out with the tide

The Plague Doctor
04:03
|
|||
Poke my stitches with broken sticks
Sniff my remains with perfume
Cloak yourself in the blackest robes
Are they keeping secrets from you?
Hide from the rats inside your walls
The rest will roll their eyes back
Did you hear the cadaver said,
"Tally me up, now
Please keep track."
I'm not so scared to open up the gates
Set me free from this wretched plague
I know I sinned and that's okay
Looks like it's time for us to pray
Swollen and numb we were just a heap of rotting stench
No one can stop this fucking pestilence
Making death the only thing you do
Fixing up people who can't stand you
So sew your heart up now
Cause everyone is looking blue
Hide from the rats inside your walls
The rest will roll their eyes back
Did you hear the cadaver said,
"Tally me up, now
Please keep track."
I'm not so scared to open up the gates
Set me free from this wretched plague
I know I sinned and that's okay
Looks like it's time for us to pray
Swollen and numb we were just a heap of rotting stench
No one can stop this fucking pestilence
Say goodbye but don't touch a thing
You can look, but you cannot cling
It's time to say farewell
But don't sip from the wishing well
I'm not so scared to open up the gates
Set me free from this wretched plague
I know I sinned and that's okay
Looks like it's time for us to pray
Swollen and numb we were just a heap of rotting stench
No one can take this fucking punishment
